Norma Jean graduated as valedictorian in 1946 at Wyaconda High School. She attended the Kirksville State Teachers College in Kirksville, Missouri and taught school for 3 years before marrying the love of her life, Virgil. She was of the Baptist faith.
On April 10 1949, Norma Jean was united in marriage to Virgil Scifres. To this union was born seven children: Harry Joe & Evelyn, Steffenville, Dennie & Betty, Jennilee Carper, LaBelle, Audrey & Randy Rayl, Ewing, Vancell & Sharon, Monticello, Stacy Scifres, Lewistown and Vonnie & Karl Franke, Novelty; 16 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren
Two brothers Orville & Johanna Steele, George Steele and one sister June & Louis Ferguson.

Norma Jean was a homemaker for many years before working at Motorola for several years. Then
“Grumpy Gramps” and Gran Ma Jean” babysit when needed, enjoyed camping, country music shows and ball games.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, parents, sister-in-law Calene Steele and son-in-law Donnie Carper.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2016, in the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, MO. Pastor Barb Hagerla will officiate the services. Burial will be in the New Woodville Cemetery east of Wyaconda, MO.
Pallbearers: Paul Scifres, Ryan Scifres, Jason Rayl, Travis Hustead, Lance Scifres & Lucas Stevens.
