William Merton Hayden, 76, of Wyaconda, died at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 1969, in the Mitchell Rest Home in Kahoka. He was a retired merchant of many years in Wyaconda and a member of the Baptist church in Wyaconda and the I.O.O.F.
Born December 17, 1892 in Clark County he was the son of E.C. and Eveline Ethridge Hayden.
He married Vassie May Dorsey on September 10, 1913 at her home near Kahoka and she survives.
Also surviving are one brother, Stanley Hayden of Marshall, one sister, Mrs. A.L. Clough, Wyaconda.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margie Louise in 1924 at the age of four and by a son, Richard Carroll on May 10, 1951. He was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force and had completed fifty missions when his plane went down in the Mediterranean Sea.
The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Baptist church at Wyaconda with the Rev. John Gorham officiating. Burial in Wyaconda cemetery.
