BOTH GIRLS AND BOYS WIN DOUBLE HEADER HERE TUESDAY NIGHT
Girls Win 12-6
The girls season came to a happy close when they defeated Grangers' team with a score of 12 to 6 Tuesday night.
The line up for the start of the game for Wyaconda was: Margaret Hustead (Cap.) Joanna Mae Barber Forwards; Roxie Catlett and Josephine Polhans Centers; Mary Miner and Ivalou Newberry gards.
The line up for Granger was as follows: McEldowney and Fairchild Forwards; Johnston and Shorts, Centers; McHugh and Sayer, gards.
The score at end of first quarter was 4 to 2 with Wyaconda leading; both teams played hard and the break of the game was unknown to any of us.
Substitution was made on our home team. Willa Oard taking Josphine Polhans running center position. Josephine played fast and never gave up once even though her opponent was larger than she. Josphine, like all good players left the game with tears in her eyes saying she wasn't tired.
Willa and Roxie held down the center positions with considerable opposition but with out any unusual effort. The score at the end of the half was 8-6 with Granger trailing.
Mary and Ivalou played an unusually good guard game both offensive and defensive, holding Granger to a zero score the last half. Ivalou went out of the game with Dorothy LaFrenz playing her position the last quarter. From the side lines Ivalou and Mary looked to be playing the best game of the year. Dorothy played consistently and came up to our expectation. Our two forwards Margaret and Joanna Mae were smaller than their guards but they made up the difference by fast foot work, a good eye, for the goal and calmness when in a pinch. Wyaconda won by a score of 12 to 6.
Granger's team played a clean game and were good losers.
Margaret scored 3 field goals or 6 points.
Joanna Mae scored 3 field goals or 6 points.
Margaret has been a loyal captain throughout the year, both to her teammates and to the school. She is as good a loser as she is in winner and when the morale was low in the team Margaret feeling of enthusiasm would bust forth with a "Lest Beat Um Girls", and all were ready to play ball. Margaret has had a loyal squad all season. The spirit of friendship rather than enmity dominated the court. Let's begin next year where we left off this year. Remember our old letter players were scarce at the opening of this year.
