John William Barber

Funeral service for John William (Johnny or J. W.) Barber of Fowler, Kansas, were held Saturday, February 1, 1997, at the First Christian Church in Fowler, with Pastor Doug Vasey presiding.
Barber, 68, died Tuesday, January 28, 1997 at Minneola District Hospital in Minneola, Kansas.
The son of Joseph William and Ethel Mae Schuster Barber, he was born September 10, 1928, in Wyaconda, Missouri.
He moved his family to Pampa, Texas, in 1959, and lived there until 1970, working the Pampa and White Deer areas. In 1970, he moved his family to Liberal, Kansas. He was the owner of Barber Irrigation of Fowler. He had been a resident of Fowler for the past 14 years.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Beverly Chestnut Barber; his ex-wife of 21 years, Juanita Buford Barber Cox; three sons: Billy Joe Barber of Ft. Worth, Texas; Steven Mark Barber of Houston, Texas; and David Lawrence Barber of Arlington, Texas; three daughters: Dianna Lynne Barber McCoy of Pampa/Groom; Brenda Gail Barber Pelegrin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Lisa Gertrude Barber Jones of Ft. Worth; stepsons Charles Carr of Middleton, Ohio, and David Chestnut of Amarillo, Texas; stepdaughters, Peggy Chestnut Price of Liberal, Kansas, and Billie Jean Chestnut Smith of Fowler: 19 grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Cremation followed the service.
Arrangements were under the direction of Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade, Kansas.
