OBITUARY
LESTER ALBERT RAINEY
Lester Albert Rainey, son of Edward and Elizabeth Chasteen Rainey,
was born in Wyaconda, Mo., on the 30th day of June 1894, and
departed this life at his home, south of Wyaconda, on the 23rd day of November
1944. At the time of his death, he was 50 years, 4 months, and 28 days old.
While Mr. Rainey was up and around most of the time for the past
few years, yet he did not enjoy good health. He was affected with a heart
ailment that caused him much suffering, but he bore his ailment bravely and did
not complain. To his many friends, his death came as a shock, but he and his
family knew that his death would come suddenly as it did.
On the 24th day of December 1919, he was married to Miss Lorine
Black. To this union two daughters were born, namely Leola and Juanita. Mr. and
Mrs. Rainey have spent most of their married life In Wyaconda and vicinity,
where Lester was engaged as a painter and decorator, his chosen profession. Part
of their time was spent on a farm south of Wyaconda at which place death
overtook him.
Lester attended the Wyaconda grade and high school, was a member of the
basketball and baseball teams, also played in the town and school band. He was
of a genial disposition and made many friends wherever he went.
In early life, he united with the Wyaconda Christian church.
In World War No. 1, Lester was among the first to enlist from
Clark County. Mo. He and Virgil LaFrens, Ralph
Brotherton, and Marvin Sawyer enlisted together and served their country nobly
for the duration of the war.
There remain to mourn his passing, his faithful wife, and
companion, Mrs. Lorine Rainey of Wyaconda; his two daughters, Mrs. Leola Rees
of Newport News, Va., and Mrs. Jaunita Clough of
Aberdeen, S. C.; four sisters, Mrs. Nellie Rainey of Seneca, Ill.; Mrs. Grace Keiner of Ft. Madison, Iowa; Mrs. Josie Kerner of Quincy, Ill.,
Mrs. Blanche Cased of Fairfield, Iowa; and one brother, Jesse Rainey of
Moberly, Mo., besides other relatives, and a large number of friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
Funeral services wen held at the Christian church in
Wyaconda, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. J. L. Stone, the pastor of the
Christian church at Kahoka, officiating.
Military rites were held at the grave by the American Legion
Post No. 192 of Kahoka, of which Mr. Rainey was a member.
Music was furnished by Mrs. B. F. Hutchinson and Mrs. Kenneth
Fry with Mrs. Clio Wilson at the piano.
The pallbearers were David Wayne McDade. John Nicol, Clarence
Robertson, Homer Hawkins, Charles Roberta, and Victor Desveaux.
Interment was made in the Wyaconda cemetery.
