GOOD RECORD MADE BY MAJOR COUNTY COURT

In the case of the State against Wm. V. Foree, under a charge of slander of a female, the jury returned a verdict of guilty. About fifty witnesses came over from Ames (a town in southeastern Major County) where the case arose. The case took up nearly three days and was a very nasty case throughout. In passing sentence, the judge took pity on the invalid mother of the defendant and did not give a jail sentence, but only a fine of $500.00 and cost of the case as the mother had no one to care for her except her son.
