OSU Professor, Former Breck Resident, Dies
BRECKENRDIGEM (RNS) – Dr. Steve Wood, 27, an assistant professor of business at Oklahoma State University and a former Breckenridge resident, died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday in Stephens Memorial Hospital.
He and his family were visiting relatives in Breckenridge during the Christmas holidays when he became ill.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in (1701 W) Elliott Street Church of Christ in Breckenridge with Jimmy Cox, minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Yellow Fork Cemetery northeast of Breckenridge directed by Melton’s Funeral Home.
Born Steven Wright Wood July 20, 1946, in Graham, he lived in Breckenridge most of his life. He attended East Ward Elementary and was a 1964 graduate of Breckenridge High School where he was a member of the football team and national president of the Future Business Leaders of America. He was a 12-year member of Breckenridge Boy’s Choir.
He attended Abilene Christian Collage 1964-67 and received his BBS degree from North Texas State University (1155 Union Circle Ste 311277, Denton, TX 76203) in 1969. He received his master’s degree from NTSU in 1970 and his doctorate from Texas Tech in 1972. He was a member of the National Academy of Management.
He married Cindy Holland May 6, 1967 in Breckenridge. They moved from Lubbock to Stillwater, Okla. In 1972. He was a member of Stillwater Church of Christ.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Christy Elizabeth and Sara Jo, both of the home; His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wood of Breckenridge; a sister, Mrs. Quay F. Parker of Abilene; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Eunice Wright of Breckenridge.
Pallbearers will be Randy Howell, Bobby Knight, Phil Dye, Tim Ball, Dr. Carl Hall and Dr. Phil Lewis.
The family request that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to a favorite charity.
