Lawrence Irving Hayden

Lawrence Irving Hayden, a son of Daniel and Frances Black Hayden, was born near Wyaconda, Clark county, Missouri, July 14, 1875, and departed this life after a long illness, April 7, 1923, his age at demise being 47 years, 8 months and 28 days.

On January 8, 1900, he was united in marriage with Miss Emma Raine, and of their union two son were born, one of whom passed away in infancy. He is survived by the faithful and devoted wife, one son, Raymond, and one grandson, Raymond, Jr., three brothers: Edd and Jess of Wyaconda, Missouri, and George, of Ft. Madison, Iowa; and one half-brother, Ben Hayden of Boyd, Oklahoma; and one sister, Mrs. Rosa LaFrenz, of near Wyaconda, besides many more remote relatives.

For many months Mr. Hayden’s condition was known to be serious and his recovery doubtful, and yet neither his relatives nor the community was prepared for his passing. The entire community was plunged in deep sorrow when it was know that his spirit had taken flight. He had made a host of friends and few or no enemies and a vast host gathered at his funeral service which was held from the New Woodville Baptist church on Monday, April 9, 1923. The mortal body was laid to rest in the New Woodville cemetery.

During his last illness Mr. Hayden was brought by Divine Grace to embrace the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour, and spent his last hours in the happy assurance of the full salvation of his soul. To two of his close friends, Jas. Cull and John Davis, he made his confession of faith in Jesus Christ and assured them that all things were well.

Quietly and peacefully the body sleeps under the clay, but the spirit has returned to God who gave it.
